Filing Income Tax for the Deceased

In Singapore, income earned by someone up to the date of their death is subject to income tax. The executor or administrator of the deceased's estate is responsible for filing the income tax return. Here's what you need to know:

Who files:

The executor or administrator of the estate is responsible for filing the income tax return for the deceased.

How to file:

The standard income tax return form isn't used for deceased individuals. Instead, a specific form, Form T (Estate or Trust Income), needs to be filed.

Here's the process:

  1. Request the Form: You can't download Form T directly. Instead, download a Request Form for Form T from the IRAS website and submit it via email to trust@iras.gov.sg.

  2. Documents required: When you email your request, include the following documents:

  • A copy of your Singpass (used for logging into IRAS myTax portal).

  • A copy of the deceased's death certificate.

  • A copy of the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration (if available).

  • Details of the deceased's income up to the date of death (type and amount of income for each source).

  • Details on any tax reliefs applicable to reduce the tax burden.

  1. Processing: After submitting the request form, IRAS will send you a Trust Reference Number and a copy of Form T to be filled out.
